Yesterday on The Ninth Watch we prayed on the goodness of God. That God will satisfy us with His goodness. David as a man raised from grass to grace, from among the sheep to the kingship, to inherit the throne of glory had a thing to say on the goodness of God, ” I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living” Psalm 27:13
The goodness of God sustains a man in His infirmity. It is that which brings renewal when we are worn out and fainting ready to throw in the towel. God gives power to the faint, to those who have no might He increases strength (Isaiah 40:29).
Most of the times we use goodness in reference to God without fulling understanding what this really means. It is a word we sometimes use loosely. Sometimes you hear folks say something like, “God is good all the time, and all the time God is good”. It becomes a cliche and looses its essence. Understanding this goodness of God, and praying to be satisfied with such could be a life changing experience.
Everything God makes or gives is good. If it is of God, guaranteed is a good thing. James the Apostle through the Holy Spirit wrote “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning” James 1:17. The word good in that verse of scripture comes from the Greek word agathos which by definition means inherently (intrinsically) good. It describes what originates from God and is empowered by Him through faith. Because that good thing comes from God, it has in it that power or ability to perfect and accomplish its purpose.
Not everything that appears to be good is inherently good, but if it is of God and comes down from the Father of lights above, guaranteed, it is a good thing. Matter of fact scripture says that there is a way that seems right to man but the end thereof are ways of death (Proverbs 14:12)
Whatever God begins though, which intrinsically is good will always last. He who begins a good work in you always sees it through to the end (Philippians 1:6). If it is of God, then it will last, He will see it through no matter the bumps along the way, “I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before Him” Ecclesiastes 3:14.
That whatever comes from above, from thee Father of lights, whatever God gives is good and cannot be gainsaid is witnessed by scripture, “And God saw every thing that He had made, and, behold, it was very good” Genesis 1:31. Do you think it was without any reason God told Moses on the mount that He will cause His goodness to pass before Him? “And He said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy” Exodus 33:19
Let us pray to be satisfied with this goodness, that He causes us to see this goodness all the days of our lives. Then we can truly say that the Lord is our helper and we will not fear what man can do to us. In The Name that is above every name, Jesus Christ Son of The Living God. Amen and Amen!
Prayer: Lord God my Father, satisfy me with your goodness, in The Name of your Son Jesus Christ. Amen and Amen!
